hey, it's brent and courtney from gray house studio. today we have a simple, fun and inexpensive ikea hack for you. we are going to make this industrial tabletop light out of two materials: a sinner...si... sinnerlig i think. am i saying that right? sinnerlig. a sinnerlig pot and a light cord set and just a few tools. we will show you how to do this.

before drilling the 1-5/8 inch hole with the diamond coated hole saw we need to make a jig to hold the hole saw in place. to do this, clamp a piece of wood that is slightly larger than the base of your pot to the table and use a 1-3/4 inch hole saw to cut a hole in the center of the board. once halfway through the board flip is over and finish drilling.

to align the jig with the pot mark the center point of the bottom. then line the hole in the board up with that mark. clamp three small scrap boards to the bottom of the jig wedging the pot in place. add some water to lubricate the drill bit for a better cut and longer drill bit life. because spray paint will dry a different color any spots where you can see the clay of the pot exposed.

we decided to sand the bottom of the pot to create an even surface to paint. finally, before painting dill a hole in the bottom side of the pot with a 5/8th inch glass and tile bit. with a matte black spray paint, paint the entire pot. notice the bottom where the clay is exposed dried a light shade than the rest of the pot. to wire the lamp up you will have to cut the cord about 6 inches from the light socket.

carefully cut open the black casing to exposed the inside wires and cut away 1-1/2 inches of that casing. strip the black and white wires exposing about 1/2 an inch of the copper on each wire. then repeat this for the other half of the cord. be sure to be carful when using the blade not to cut yourself. thread the long half of the cord

through the small hole in the pot and secure the light socket through the inside of the pot. finally, twist the white wires together and the black wires together, separately. secure by twisting on wire nuts to cover each exposed wire. electrical tape and wire tubing can be used to safely cover the splices wires. add a cool light bulb and
