gray living room walls and furniture

this great room is a two-story great roomwith lots of volume. it's very dramatic, very exciting, but sometimestwo-story volume rooms can be really a challenge to decorate. one of the things that can turn a room fromordinary to extraordinary is the right artwork and accessories. so let's start with dividing spaces and artwork. here what we did was we took two mirrors,a piece of art, two mirrors and a piece of art to break it up. the mirrors are from home decorator.

you can go online and they're $99 a piece. not that expensive. then on the other side of the room, you cando something as simple as taking a room dividing screen and taking it apart and spreading outon the wall. but don't spread it out too far. you wanna keep a close distance between multiplepieces so it's not looking like you're trying to fill the wall. the other issue is always window coverings. here you can see we went all the way to theceiling with the window coverings.

very simple treatment, art in between. and again, it draws attention to the volumein the room. now, this room is a great example of the latestand greatest trends in color. it's yellow and gray and white, and this isa color scheme that you see in the restoration hardware catalogs and west elm catalogs. so we always go to those catalogs in modelhomes because that's what people are seeing and that's what they like. the furniture is another good example of avery transitional style. clean lines on the sofa, clean lines on allthe tables, uncluttered but comfortable.

people are always asking about area rugs. well, you can combine prints as long as youdo it thoughtfully. these chairs and the pillows on the sofa havea geometric pattern, a diamond pattern, but you can see that this darling area rug hasa more organic pattern so they don't fight each other. and again, this pattern on the rug with thebright yellow and the gray really helps to bring this room to life.
